THE VOTER'S BOOTH — Politicians, elections, other political matters are inescapable right now. And unfortunately, it's rough out there.
But we're not here to dig into our current political climate or start online comment threads that are conducted without civility and respect. We're here to forget about the world for a moment to watch an internet video as pure escapism.
In that way, there is a political figure that can unite us all, and that is Gerald Daugherty, Precinct Three Commissioner, Travis County, Texas.
Well, at least his wife can unite us.
The featured video is a political ad that has resurfaced after four years, just in time to give us a sensible chuckle.
In the video, Gerald has guests over for dinner, but all he can do is talk details of his political expertise: transportation. And his long-suffering wife is (tactfully) begging and pleading for voters to get Gerald out of the house with their votes. Apparently, you can only talk about planes, trains, and automobiles so much before you crack.
It's a cute video with subtle humor as well as the delight that non-actors often bring to local commercials.
Gerald won that election, and it turns out it will end up being his last term. The 70-year-old is currently planning to step down this year.
