THE HALLWAYS — Going back to school in the era of COVID-19 brings a flurry of conflicting emotions. On the one hand, there’s excitement and enthusiasm at seeing and doing something real, tangible and normal. On the other, there’s no shortage of anxiety and uncertainty as students return in person or via technology.

That’s why Monroe Comprehensive High School teachers Audrianna Williams and Callie Evans made these two videos. They wanted their students to have hope and a morale boost before returning to class.

As Evans wrote on her Instagram, "Tomorrow is the first day of virtual school ! With all the uncertainty these past few months have brought, I want to be able to get my students excited for what’s to come. You all will still be great despite what we’ve been through. Let’s have a great year!!"

Williams echoed the sentiment, saying in her own post, "We are in for a wild ride this school year, but let’s make the best of it! What better way to release all of the anxiety, doubts & fears of the school year than to dance & turn up 🔥 What’s poppin’?! 😏 20-21 School Year, Let’s get it!"

So they enlisted the Monroe High cheerleading squad as backup dancers (social-distanced and wearing masks, of course), wrote and learned a parody rap, and took to the hallways.

The end results are fantastic and will hopefully give you a much-needed pick-me-up this back-to-school season. I would have learned a lot more in high school with catchy educational songs like this. Frankly, someone needs to get these amazing teachers a raise (and possibly a record contract).

No matter if your school is virtual like Monroe High, in-person, hybrid, or any other type, this video makes it clear that fun doesn't care about your learning format, and seemingly-endless safety procedures can be discussed and followed in a way that puts a smile on everyone's face.
