SALT LAKE CITY — A former Price police officer has been charged with having illegal sexual relations with a woman on probation.

Michael Gordon Jones, 30, of Helper, was charged Tuesday in 7th District Court with four counts of custodial sexual relations, a third-degree felony.

The investigation began July 30 when authorities learned that Jones, who was still a Price police officer, “was possibly having a sexual relationship with two women who were under the supervision of Adult Probation and Parole,” a police booking affidavit states.

Police interviewed one woman who said she began having a relationship with Jones in February while she was on probation with Adult Probation and Parole and in the drug court program. The woman said she and Jones had sexual relations on four occasions, according to the affidavit.

“She told us that she was aware that this relationship was not allowed, because he was a police officer and that she was on probation. She also informed us that Mike had told her to not tell anyone about their relationship, specifically her probation officer and drug court tracker because they were required to report this,” the affidavit says.

When confronted about the alleged relationship, Jones admitted he had a relationship with the woman that “went too far,” according to the affidavit. He was arrested on July 31.

Jones has since resigned from the Price Police Department, where he worked for less than a year.
