SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- An entire section of Murray hopes to make the National Register of Historic Places.
Murray's historic commercial district is among the Utah locations hoping to protect their cultural legacy.
The area includes 54 buildings most of them constructed between 1898 and 1930. That's when Murray was experiencing a large amount of growth from a train corridor and the development of smelters.
Other Utah places vying for a spot on the list include several properties from Logan to Salt Lake City, among them the Walker Bank Building downtown.
Making the list enables owners to seek state and federal tax credits to help with renovations.
The National Park Service is expected to decide if the nominations make the national register by the end of October.
