(KSL News) -- Parents, teachers, students and community volunteers lent a hand building a school today so students can begin class on Monday.
Chairs, desks, boxes of supplies and construction crews could all be seen outside Spectrum Academy School. It is specifically-designed to teach students with autism -- academics as well as social skills.
Students will also learn basic functions such as making the bed, brushing teeth and vacuuming, to prepare them to live on their own.
Parents say the kids are eager to begin school.
Shelly Carter, Volunteer: "We are committed 100 percent to getting these kids in school on Monday. So as much help as we can get from the community, we will put them to work."
