And with two new refrigerated trucks, thanks to $38,000 grant from Kraft Foods, the food bank will be able to collect and deliver the food before it expires.

The refrigerated unit also allows the bank to collect non-traditional frozen items, like deli meats, produce and bakery goods.

"If we can mix these types of fresh items in within the food drive, items we get from community support as well as frozen turkeys and other items we have, we can start to get balanced nutritious food boxes to families in need throughout the state," said Jim Pugh, executive director of the Utah Food Bank.

The food bank also says new sources of food are vital at this time, as many families are going hungry in these tough economic times.
