Mountain Crest 35, Timpview 37
A few more musings from the post game; this has by far been the best ball game week and maybe even the post season, it's a shame for all the Mountain Crest and Timpview fans or just Prep football fans in general who weren't able to watch. I'm also very impressed with Alex Kuresa, the sophomore QB for Mountain Crest, he was nearly un-sackable tonight, on the move making tough, accurate throws. He finished with 344 yards passing and 4 TDs, and 42 yards on 11 carries and a TD. Jeremiah continued to say how scary he will be in 2 years as a senior and I couldn't agree more. And this is not to take anything away from the QB on the other sideline, Casey Rumsey, 205 yards passing and a TD, and 113 yards and 2 TDs on the ground. Both schools should be proud of the performance by their teams, Mountain Crest for getting back into it down by 18, and Timpview for not panicking and making the plays to win the game. We're about 45 minutes from Park City and Juan Diego and I'm going to go find some food.

Halftime Second Quarter
Mountain Crest 13, Timpview 24
This has been a very exciting game and is even closer than the score would indicate. The Mustangs are giving Timpview a game thanks in part to the play of Sophomore Quarterback Alex Kuresa. He is 15-22 for 116 yards and two touchdowns. For Timpview on offense, Casey Rumsey made up for an early interception by running 68 yards for a score and throwing a 26 yard touchdown to Travis Van Leeuwen. Mountain Crest has dominated the time of posession almost 2 to 1 (15:14 To 8:46). On defense Craig Bills has starred for Timpview with 9 tackles and a blocked extra point.
:00 Second Quarter
Mountain Crest 13, Timpview 24
As time runs out in the 2nd half, Alex Kuresa makes another incredible play. Scrambling for his life he throws a prayer into the end zone and tight end Matt Stewart answers the prayer catching 23 yard touchdown. The extra point was blocked by future BYU Safety Craig Bills. Still, this has been, by far, the most entertaining half of the semifinals.

1:48 Second Quarter
Mountain Crest 7, Timpview 17
Alex Kuresa has been very impressive so far for Mountain Crest. He has somehow avoided a furious pass rush from the T-Birds completing one tough pass after another. What is even more impressive is that he is just a sophomore. This is his second State Semifinal game as a starting Quarterback. He still has two years ahead of him and that will be fun to watch. The Mustangs have moved the ball to hte Timpview 37 and now face a 4th down and 8. They will go for it.
6:09 Second Quarter
Mountain Crest 7, Timpview 17

Mountain Crest is putting together a pretty good drive. After drawing a personal foul the Mustangs are on the Timpview 24 yard line. This has been a hard hitting game so far. T-birds defensive back Chris Badger just destroyed a mustangs running back.

Controversial call on Mountain Crest's first offensive play. Quarterback Alex Kuresa threw a pass to Alex Knowles which a replay in the press box showed was incomplete. But the officials on the field ruled the play was a fumble which Timpview recovered at the Stangs 31 yard line. Too bad there is no replay in high school football.

12:00 First Quarter
Mountain Crest 0, Timpview 0
Timpview has won 34 straight games and are favored to win their third straight title and 4th in 5 years. I also read that, with the exception of a quarterfinal loss to East in 2005, the T-Birds haven't lost a game by more than 10 points since 2001. That's incredible. Timpview is a 4A dynasty. Can Mountain Crest put the 34 game winning streak to an end? The only people who think they have a chance are the players and their parents. But why not the Mustangs? They have a 9 game winning streak and won it all in 2005. It will be interesting to see what happens. If Mountain Crest can keep it close this could get very interesting.
