PINE VALLEY, Washington County — An earthquake rattled parts of southwest Utah on Tuesday.

The 3.76 temblor happened at 3:44 a.m. with the epicenter in a remote area near Pine Valley in the Dixie National Forest, about 24 miles northwest of Hurricane, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

At least seven aftershocks have been reported in the area between Enterprise and New Harmony, including a 2.7 magnitude quake at 6:29 a.m., according to the University of Utah Seismograph Stations.

Suzanne Johnson said she remembers wondering why the bed was shaking in the middle of the night, but it took her awhile to realize it was an earthquake. It brought back memories of the March 18 quake in Salt Lake County.

“After experiencing the Magna earthquakes, I didn’t expect to feel another one in Pine Valley! This place is supposed to be my safe haven,” said Johnson, who lives in the small Washington County community during part of the year.

She said she and her family also felt two of the aftershocks.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
