TOWAOC, Colorado — Police arrested a man wanted in connection with an assault on a federal officer, officials said.

A Bureau of Indian Affairs officer arrested Cecil Vijil about 7 p.m. Sunday as he was walking along Highway 160 south of Towaoc, Colorado, on the Ute Mountain Ute Indian Reservation, according to a news release from the San Juan County Sheriff's Office.

Vijil was last seen in Aneth, Utah, on the Navajo Nation in San Juan County, on Thursday. He was allegedly involved in a shooting that took place there about 3 p.m. Law enforcement's encounter with Vijil originally started with an April 30 incident at the 7-Eleven store in Mexican Hat, southwest of Aneth, according to the sheriff's office.

The FBI said he fired multiple rounds at an FBI special agent and a San Juan County sheriff's deputy who had gone to a house in Aneth to serve a search warrant. No one was injured in the shooting.

A warrant was then issued for Vijil's arrest. He was being investigated for assaulting a federal officer and discharging a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.

Vijil was taken into custody without incident, according to the news release. He was held in a federal facility in Towaoc and was awaiting an initial appearance in La Plata County, Colorado, as of Monday, according to FBI spokeswoman Sandra Yi Barker.

Authorities were also looking for a second man, Gary Lee Jr., in connection with the Thursday shooting.

However, law enforcement officials on Monday said they were no longer looking for any wanted people in relation to the shooting. Investigators have spoken with Lee and there are no charges against him as of Monday, Barker said.

The FBI had offered a reward up to $5,000 for Vigil's arrest and conviction. The San Juan County Sheriff's Office offered a $1,000 reward as well.
