MILLCREEK — Police arrested a 64-year-old man after he reportedly threatened his neighbors, used racial slurs against them and kicked their dog.
Philip Charles Henry Holmes, 64, of Millcreek, was arrested about 10 a.m. Monday for investigation of aggravated cruelty to animals, threatening violence, assault and propelling a bodily substance.
Unified police were called to the area of 1300 East and 4150 South. Holmes saw a dog chained on the easement connected to his property and then confronted the woman who owned the dog, according to a police affidavit.
“Philip told the female the dog was chained on his property, and the female stated the dog was chained on her property. Philip began swearing and using derogatory terms toward the female. The female’s boyfriend ... came outside and told Philip to stop talking to the female in that manner. Philip began using racial slurs toward (the boyfriend) and threatened him,” the affidavit states.
The arguing became more heated and Holmes attempted to hit the boyfriend, according to the affidavit. The boyfriend pushed Holmes down in self-defense, the affidavit states.
“Philip got up and kicked the dog that was chained twice forcefully and (the boyfriend) pushed Philip again down to the ground,” according to the affidavit.
The boyfriend and woman took the dog and left after the confrontation. As paramedics called to the scene were checking Holmes, he stated “I’m gonna go get a gun and kill that black (expletive),” the affidavit states.
After being cleared by medical personnel, Holmes was transported to the Salt Lake County Jail.
