SALT LAKE CITY — Summit County has announced two new cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.

Both patients are male and under the age of 60, the Summit County Health Department said Friday. They were both visitors from out of state, but did not travel to Utah together.

Another new case of COVID-19 was announced Friday in Salt Lake County, according to Utah Department of Health state epidemiologist Dr. Angela Dunn.

The new Salt Lake County case announced Friday is travel-related and not a case of community spread, Dunn said. That person, a resident of Salt Lake County, was identified using telehealth and is currently isolated, she added. She did not release any further details about the case.

The new case brings the number of Salt Lake County residents who've tested positive to three, including Utah Jazz players Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell.

Summit County health officials are currently working to identify and contact anyone who may have come in contact with the two people diagnosed with the disease there. When identified, those people will be monitored in accordance with local, state and federal guidelines, the health department said.

The county now has four total cases of the disease. Previously, one Summit County resident and one out-of-state visitor had tested positive for the disease in the county.

Both of the previous Summit County cases are also males under the age of 60, the health department said. They are self-isolating and have mild symptoms.

There is no evidence of community spread of the disease in Summit County or the rest of Utah.

Of the four cases of people who currently have the disease in Summit County, only one is a resident of the county, health officials say. The three others, including the two announced Friday, are tourists from out of state.

The Utah Department of Health is not currently counting the Summit County tourists toward their official count of Utah cases, which is currently six. However, there are currently seven people with COVID-19 located in the state:

  • A Salt Lake County resident
  • A Summit County resident
  • A Davis County resident
  • A resident in the Weber-Morgan Health District
  • 3 out-of-state tourists who are located in Summit County

Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell tested positive in Oklahoma and are being counted in Utah tallies since they are Salt Lake County residents, Utah Department of Health Spokesman Tom Hudachko explained. The two Utah Jazz players are no longer in Oklahoma, Hudachko confirmed.

Correction: An earlier version incorrectly implied Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert were currently in Utah. Officials have not confirmed where the two Utah Jazz players will be doing their self-quarantine.
