THE GROCERY STORE — Barcodes scanners are a big part of your life.
Almost every kind of store uses them to quickly get to the part where they take your money, any company with large warehouses needs them to keep track of inventory, and even your food is made safer with barcodes that help track the supply chain.
But talking about the everyday mundane via barcodes is not why we’re here. We’re here to tell you that beauty in the everyday mundane happens a lot, and this time it’s with barcodes.
The little beaut of a video is brought to you by a band from Japan called ELECTRONICOS FANTASTICOS! They used their creative brains to come up with a new "sound" for barcodes.
Forget the beep-beeps of a scanner attached to a cash register, and meet the womp-womp of the hottest club near you when the scanners are attached directly to speakers.
The duo in this video are in front of a display filled with different shapes and sizes of black lines that serve as their makeshift barcodes. They use these to create different pitches and tones in their music. Plus they make it extra fun with a loose bebopping choreography.
It all ends when the two, wearing what appears to be their version of barcode referee jerseys, turn the scanners on themselves and each other.
And the mundane beeping becomes beautiful. (Or at least interesting.)
The band says it best in the video description: "During the day, you are a regular cashier. During the night, you can be a barcodist!"
