SALT LAKE CITY — Looking for a little winter entertainment? Though the Sundance Film Festival is winding down, the live music calendar is heating up along the Wasatch Front and beyond.
February brings singer-songwriters, emo rockers, country legends, and pop stars to Utah. Here a few concerts to consider.
Brandi Carlile
Feb. 8
Vivint Smart Home Arena, 301 South Temple, Salt Lake City
There’s a reason so many Brandi Carlile fans see her every time she comes to town — she never plays the same show twice.
The alt-country singer is not afraid to shake up a setlist, mixing in ballads, country stomps, and bluegrass barn burners. In recent shows, she’s even covered Madonna and Elton John tunes. Here’s hoping fan favorite "The Joke" makes the setlist.
Dashboard Confessional
Feb. 21
The Depot, 13 N. 400 West, Salt Lake City
It’s hard to believe it’s been 20 years since Dashboard Confessional became synonymous with the term "emo." To celebrate two decades of Dashboard, frontman Chris Carrabba will continue breaking hearts across the country.
Come prepared to sing every word of "Hands Down" and "Screaming Infidelities."
Blake Shelton
Feb. 27
Vivint Smart Home Arena, 301 South Temple, Salt Lake City
Sure, multi-platinum selling, multi-million making, Gwen Stefani-dating Blake Shelton is the main attraction of his upcoming tour. But if you’re headed to the concert, don’t forget to check out the opening acts.
Country music grandfathers The Bellamy Brothers — with tracks like "Redneck Girl" and "Reggae Cowboy" — are an absolute must-see.
Echosmith
Feb. 27
The Complex, 536 W. 100 South, Salt Lake City
Families that play together stay together. The Sierota siblings, Sydney, Noah and Graham, started Echosmith back in 2009 and broke into the mainstream with "Cool Kids" in 2013.
After seven years, the band is finally back with a new album: "Lonely Generation." Though the cool kids are now a bit older, Echosmith picks up where it left off, creating dreamy synth pop — case in point, lead single "Shut Up and Kiss Me." If you feel like dancing — or kissing — grab a date and head to the show.
Jenny Oaks Baker & Family Four
Feb. 29
Willowcreek Middle School
In the past 20-plus years, violinist Jenny Oaks Baker has racked up some impressive credentials — performing with the National Symphony Orchestra, soloing at Carnegie Hall and releasing 15 albums.
Though she’s known for both her classical and spiritual recordings, she’s not afraid to mix things up a bit. In late 2019, Jenny Oaks Baker & Family Four tackled Sweet Child of Mine by Guns ‘n Roses. She and the Family Four will play a free show on leap day at the Library Fundraising Gala in Lehi. For a big donation, maybe they’ll play some Metallica.
