WEST JORDAN — A Millcreek man who police say livestreamed an attempted rape now faces criminal charges.
Lorenzo Bokanga, 30, was charged Wednesday in 3rd District Court with attempted rape and attempted forcible sodomy, first-degree felonies; burglary, a second-degree felony; assault and threat of violence, class B misdemeanors.
On Sept. 28, police say Bokanga entered a Sandy woman’s home just as she was about to take a shower. The two had previously engaged in consensual sexual activity, according to charging documents. The woman locked the bathroom door before getting into the shower.
While she was showering, Bokanga entered the bathroom and attempted to have sex with the woman who told him “no” and pushed him away, the charges state.
As Bonkanga was leaving, the woman “noticed (he) was recording on Facebook Live,” according to charging documents.
The woman asked to see his phone, but she said Bokanga pushed her away. The woman followed Bokanga outside in an attempt to see his phone, but she was again shoved away. Bonkaga then tried to punch the woman before the friend he was with told him not to, the charges state.
“Before leaving, (Bonkanga) exited the car and told (the woman) that he was going to kill her,” investigators wrote in the charges.
When police were contacted, a detective located Bonkanga’s Facebook page and viewed the uploaded live video. The 24-minute video starts with Bokanga arriving at the woman’s home, police say. It then shows him entering the house without knocking, eating and going to the bathroom door where he “tinkers” with the door before opening it, according to charging documents.
Bonkanga then appears to try and hide the phone with the towel before confronting the woman, the charges say.
Prosecutors noted in court documents that Bonkanga has “an extensive prior criminal history” and is currently on federal probation.
The woman field for a protective order on Oct. 5, according to court records.
