SOME MOUNTAIN IN FRANCE — The Tour de France is a worldwide spectacle, and everyone wants to get in on the action.
Roadbikers everywhere dream of riding in the Tour and earning that yellow jersey. Those who don't bike watch the athletes prove their superhuman ability as they climb mountains and traverse entire ranges.
While we all sit back and marvel at the amazing display of human endurance, one mountain biker decided he wanted to be a part of the action but didn't want to actually race in the Tour.
Valentin Anouilh is a 19-year-old professional mountain biker from France, and during a mountain climb at the Tour he jumped his bike over the entire peloton. It's actually pretty incredible to see, and I love the different angles they captured. Your heart stops a little when you see Anouilh make the jump, but it's worth it to see the end result — well, worth it for us as we watch from the safety of our couch.
However, I feel like the jump wasn't the most dangerous thing Anouilh did that day. That crown belongs to the moment his friends hoist him on to their shoulders and then nearly drop him on his head.
This is a really cool video, and I realized it's also plays out like a Dr. Seuss book: Bike over bikes. Bikes under bike. Biker on bike over bikers on bikes.
