LONDON — It seems like only a few short weeks ago the universe (or at least half of the universe) was saved by the Avengers

But now the Marvel Cinematic Universe is threatened once again by another, somewhat smaller, existential threat. This time around, Spider-Man is back and reluctantly ready to fight.

In “Spider-Man: Far From Home” we get to watch our favorite neighborhood superhero finish off the “Avengers: Endgame” saga by tying up all the loose ends, while exposing the new threads to which the next generation of Marvel's Cinematic Universe will be tethered.

Before you go into “Spider-Man: Far From Home” this Fourth of July, this article will arm you with the knowledge of what content to expect for you and your kids in the film.

Violence

This film is full of the fighting we love to watch, but none of it goes beyond anything we've seen before in any other Marvel movie.

Although we know people die, we never see it — it is only referred to in dialogue. There is some intense hand-to-hand combat, but very little blood, if any. There is no gore or guts or any other disturbing violent visual to be concerned about.

Profanity

This film still falls under the PG-13 category, so we get PG-13 level profanity.

There are no F-words, or worse, but there are a lot of the standard middle school variety swears. There is at least one use of a word referring to male genitalia.

Language can be more of a problem when it is used to demean or belittle people in a way that is harmful or offensive. In “Spider-Man: Far From Home” we do not get much of this, but there are times when the dialogue is intended to put some characters down or make them doubt themselves. This is all part of the plot and sets up the big moments for the movie.

Sexuality

What I think Marvel has been able to do very well is set up romantic tension between characters without making it overtly sexual in nature.

There are some romantic relationships we witness throughout the film, some of which are only budding and some that have bloomed. Others have bloomed and wilted by the end of the movie.

All of these relationships are tastefully portrayed and used for a lot of comic relief throughout the film. There is no graphic imagery portraying anything sexual in nature, although Peter Parker is shown shirtless several times.

Intensity

There are intense moments in this film — otherwise it would be boring.

There are times when the interpersonal dynamics between some of the characters become toxic and mean with lying, betrayals and backstabbing all within the confines of the movie's theme.

Conclusion

“Spider-Man: Far From Home” is a fun movie that will only make your Fourth of July better. You can’t go wrong with this film, but be prepared for some intense fight scenes and a little language.

"Spider-Man: Far From Home" is rated PG-13 for sci-fi action violence, some language and brief suggestive comments.
