WEST VALLEY CITY — A teen accused of shaking a 4-month-old child who later died from injuries last week has been charged in the case, officials said.

The 16-year-old boy was charged with child abuse homicide, West Valley City Police Lt. Steve Burke said. His name was not released because of his age. Police did not immediately release additional details about the case. KSL.com reached out to Utah State Courts to see exactly when the teen was charged, but didn't immediately hear back.

On May 7, police responded to a report of an unresponsive child at the Shadowbrook Apartments near 3860 S. Redwood Road. Upon arriving, officers found the unresponsive child and performed CPR, Stokes said.

The child was later transported to Primary Children’s Hospital where the baby remained in critical condition as of Thursday, he said. The baby died on May 10.
