KALISPELL, Mont. (AP) — Glacier National Park officials plan to capture and mark 10 female grizzly bears as part of an ongoing effort to monitor the population in the Northern Continental Divide Ecosystem.
The Daily Inter Lake reports park officials announced Wednesday that the trapping efforts will continue through October at various spots in the Montana park.
The park estimates that 300 grizzly bears live in the park.
The park says visitors are prohibited from entering the closed bait stations and trap sites, which will be marked by warning signs.
The park recommends that visitors travel in groups and make loud noises to avoid surprise bear encounters.
Yellowstone National Park announced Monday similar plans to bait and trap grizzly bears through July.
