SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City police were still sorting out details Wednesday of a confrontation that left a man in critical condition.

Anthony Chavez was arrested for investigation of object rape and aggravated assault.

Officers responded to 580 S. 500 West about 11:15 p.m. Tuesday and found a man lying on the floor "bleeding profusely," according to a Salt Lake County Jail report.

Detectives followed a blood trail to Chavez's apartment where Chavez made comments about being in an "altercation" with the victim, the report states.

"The victim sustained multiple lacerations to the head … a base skull fracture, and a broken wrist," according to the report.

The name of the victim was not immediately released.
