FARMINGTON, Utah (AP) — The Davis County Sheriff’s office has formed a committee tasked with recommending changes to improve safety at a jail where 13 people have died over the last decade.
The Standard-Examiner reports the sheriff’s office announced Monday that the new panel will conduct a life safety study at the county jail north of Salt Lake City.
Sheriff Kelly Sparks says the panel will review significant past jail episodes and identify possible solutions.
Members of the advisory committee will include a Weber State University criminal justice professor, a retired jail commander, a doctor and a clinical social worker.
The two most recent jail deaths have resulted in lawsuits, with relatives claiming the jail was negligent.
