ROY — Southbound I-15 reopened in Roy after a multiple-vehicle crash temporarily closed the freeway late Friday afternoon, KSL Traffic Center confirmed.

At 3:50 p.m., a vehicle was traveling too fast for congestion at the beginning of rush hour and collided with a vehicle in front of it, according to Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Lawrence Hopper. That set off a chain of collisions involving seven vehicles, Hopper said. Six of them needed to be towed from the scene.

One woman was taken to a local hospital to be treated for a broken ankle and back injuries received in the crash. Her condition was not provided, but Hopper said she is expected to recover.

Several other people involved in the crash were checked on scene but were not transported.

The freeway was closed at 5600 South in Roy, Utah Department of Transportation officials said in a tweet. Traffic was diverted and shortly after 5:30 p.m., all lanes were reopened, KSL Traffic Center reported.
