GRANTSVILLE, Tooele County — Authorities have identified a boy who died after being hit by a car earlier this month.

Zayden Beck, 2, was hit by a car about 10:30 a.m. Jan. 15 near 6900 N. Burmester Road, according to Tooele County Sheriff’s Lt. Travis Scharmann. Zayden was taken to Mountain West Medical Center in Tooele and later died from his injuries.

The driver of the car that hit him remained at the scene of the crash and cooperated with law enforcement officials, according to Scharmann. He previously said that illegal activity, including impairment, was not suspected to be a factor in the crash.

“This is still a very active investigation,” Scharmann said Monday in an email.

The boy had gotten out of the house in the area where he lived, according to Scharmann. It is not clear how long he was outside before he was hit.

Officials have not yet filed anything with the county attorney’s office for screening any potential criminal charges associated with the case, he said.

The name of the driver involved in the crash will be released when the investigation is completed, Scharmann said.
