The freeway closed about 7:30 a.m., and commuters were forced to exit and re-enter off U.S. 40. The road reopened about two and a half hours later, Utah Highway Patrol reported.
The U.S. 40 fly-over structure over I-80 also closed but has since reopened. Commuters may see intermittent closures on I-80 as crews work to remove the damaged trailer, officials said.

There were no injuries in the crash, UHP Sgt. Nick Street said. It is likely the cause of the fire was overheating brakes, he said.
The crash was one of 132 crashes UHP troopers worked on Wednesday, the agency said on Twitter. On I-15 near Willard in Box Elder County, a trooper avoided injuries after another driver’s car hit his patrol vehicle while it was on the shoulder of the highway, UHP said.
