BRIGHAM CITY — A former Salt Lake County sheriff’s sergeant was ordered to complete a year of jail time and register as a sex offender last week after agreeing to plead guilty to amended charges in connection with a sodomy case.
Jamie Widdison, 45, of Eagle Mountain, pleaded guilty to attempted unlawful sexual conduct with a 16- or 17-year-old, a class A misdemeanor, in 1st District Court on Sept. 10, according to court records. He was initially charged with forcible sodomy, a first-degree felony, on March 24, 2017.
In 2017, prosecutors accused Widdison of forcing the female victim, whose age was not specified but who was "14 years of age or older," to have oral sex with him, according to initial charging documents. Prosecutors alleged the incident occurred between May 2009 and 2013.
In his plea agreement signed in September, Widdison admitted to inappropriate sexual conduct with a minor. Prosecutors agreed to amend the charge to a misdemeanor as a part of the deal.
On Thursday, Widdison was sentenced to one year in Box Elder County Jail with credit to time already spent in jail, leaving him to spend another 180 days in jail. He would also have to register as a sex offender within 48 hours of his release from jail, according to court records.
Widdison was also sentenced to 36 months probation, complete treatment and to pay $13,440 in restitution, plus a fine.
Salt Lake County sheriff’s officials said back in 2017 that Widdison worked in the Salt Lake County Jail and was placed on administrative leave on Jan. 30, 2017, after the sheriff's office was notified by the Perry Police Department about its investigation in a forcible sodomy case. Widdison resigned from his position on March 27, 2017, three days after charges were filed.
Court records show Widdison didn't have much of a criminal history prior to the case.
