WEST JORDAN — Two people are in critical condition and another is injured after a vehicle ran a red light and crashed into a semitruck in West Jordan Friday morning, officials said.

A passenger vehicle was traveling north on Mountain View Highway shortly before 9 a.m. when witnesses said it drove through a red light and collided with a semitruck hauling a 53-foot trailer eastbound on 7800 South, according to West Jordan police officer Scott List.

There were two males and a female in the passenger vehicle. Two are in critical condition and one is injured but in stable condition, List said. The driver of the semitruck was uninjured in the crash.

What caused the driver of the passenger car to run the red light is still under investigation, List said.

Eastbound 7800 South is closed at southbound Mountain View Highway, and westbound 7800 South is closed at Highlands Loop Road, according to Utah Department of Transportation officials. Northbound Mountain View Highway was closed from 9000 South to 6200 South but reopened about 3:30 p.m., according to the KSL Traffic Center.
