SALT LAKE CITY — A 3-year-old girl was seriously injured when she was hit by a pickup truck outside the Utah State Fairpark Tuesday night, officials said.

The girl ran in front of her parents as they were leaving the fair near 1100 West and 300 North about 10:45 p.m., according to Salt Lake police.

The parents yelled for her to stop. She paused, then ran into the road and was hit by a pickup truck.

The girl received very serious injuries and was transported to Primary Children’s Hospital. However, she is expected to recover, police said.

The driver of the truck was cooperating with police. Investigators do not think the driver was impaired and called this a very unfortunate accident.
