A GALAXY FAR, FAR AWAY — What if Harry Potter and Star Wars took place in the same universe?
I'll be honest, this is a question I never thought to ask. I've always kind of rolled my eyes at people trying to make fictional worlds line up. The people in our favorite stories don't really exist, so it's never mattered to me whether or not you can spot the characters from Tangled in that one scene at the beginning of Frozen or if every Pixar movie is actually just a continuing tale about the same world.
And yet, I am absolutely in love with this video that imagines what it would be like if Harry Potter and Star Wars took place in galaxies that weren't quite so far apart.

The video is short (and 2 years old, but not nearly enough people have seen it), and it shows what Hogwarts might look like if it were designed by Darth Vader and located on an asteroid instead of in some hidden forest in Scotland. And of course, the best part of this video is also the best part of Harry Potter: Quidditch.
As I watched the stormtroopers in the video zip by on their Firebolts, I couldn't help but reimagine the entire Harry Potter universe in this new context. I love the idea of little stormtrooper kiddos putting on the Sorting Hat and hoping they get sorted into a Hogwarts house with their friends. And would Darth Vader and Voldemort have teamed up? Would Dumbledore's Army have joined forces with the Rebel Alliance? I think we can all get behind a world where Princess Leia and Hermione fight alongside each other.
Yesterday's Have You Seen This?
What I'm thinking is that this video is accurate and this space Hogwarts is one of the other schools of magic like Beauxbatons or Durmstrang. It's a little harder for the space wizards to make the commute, but every century or so they lightspeed themselves (can you apparate through galaxies? Important question) down to Earth for a multi-galaxy Triwizard Tournament.
OK, maybe the worlds don't line up perfectly, but it's fun to imagine the possibilities. Enjoy the video and leave a comment below with your favorite (or most unique) Harry Potter/Star Wars crossover idea.
