SARATOGA SPRINGS – Saratoga Springs Fire and Rescue Chief Jess Campbell wants citizens to keep a close eye out for any suspicious activity after three separate fires burned about 100 acres of BLM land.
The fires happened between the 16- and 18-mile markers along Redwood Road south of Saratoga Springs Thursday evening. Campbell believes the fires were intentional.
“Based on the patterns and where they were in proximity to the road and the fact that all three were of similar size. It means someone was moving fairly quickly along the highway to be able to make those starts,” Campbell said.
Campbell believes whoever set the fires may have gathered grass from the area, lit it on fire, and tossed it from a passing car. The fires, he said, were similar to another string of fires in the same area in the summer of 2017.
No property was damaged in the fires Thursday evening. Campbell wants the public to keep a close eye out for anything suspicious.
“It’s just one of those things that we hope that we get a break at some point, because we feel that there is somebody that’s got some pretty ill-advised intentions,” he said.
