SARATOGA SPRINGS — A string of fires that ignited near Redwood Road on Sunday, including one that grew to about 100 acres, are believed to be intentionally set, authorities said.
In all, seven fires were reported early Sunday afternoon near that roadway, all the way from just south of Saratoga Springs to near the intersection with Centennial Boulevard, said David Johnson, Saratoga Springs economic development director and spokesman.
By 7 p.m., the city reported that all fires except the southernmost one were out. That fire got to about 100 acres in size but was completely contained on the perimeter by Sunday afternoon, according to Johnson.
One of the fires got within about 150 feet of a home, he said.
"(Firefighters) are putting in a lot of work, and we're very grateful for them," Johnson said.
Because the fires' steady path northward, they are believed to be intentional, he said. No information about possible suspects was immediately known to authorities. Johnson asked anyone with information to contact police.
