SALT LAKE CITY — A movie a day for $9.95 per month — was it too good to be true? Maybe.

Earlier this month, MoviePass stopped selling new movie-a-day subscriptions and instead teamed up with iHeartRadio for a promotional deal that includes four movies a month for three months for about $30, Variety reported.

This week, the company's CEO, Mitch Lowe, expressed doubt that the original deal will ever return, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

When the publication asked Lowe whether the plan will be offered again, he answered, “I don’t know.” Just a few months ago, Lowe told The Hollywood Reporter there were no plans to "water down the service."

Friday, several customers complained on social media about another change, this one allowing subscribers to see a movie only one time using the MoviePass.

One customer said in a Facebook post, "I would not have bought this card if I had known you weren't going to let me see the same movie twice! ... I feel lied to!" Another said, "The fact that you would change your terms of service so drastically, EVEN FOR PEOPLE WHO PAID A WHOLE YEAR UPFRONT, means I can’t trust you at all."

MoviePass responded by pointing out the Terms of Service recently changed.

Skeptics have wondered whether the company can remain viable.

Last week, a Securities and Exchange Commission filing showed auditors doubt the company's ability to stay in business, the New York Times reported.

The company was founded in 2011 and has more than 2 million subscribers.
