CLEARFIELD — A 38-year-old Layton man is dead following an industrial accident where he got caught in machinery Saturday afternoon, officials confirmed.
Police officers and medical personnel were dispatched to PolyExcel in the Clearfield Freeport Center about 12:10 p.m., according to a news release from the Clearfield Police Department. When they arrived, they found the man caught in machinery.
Emergency responders were able to extricate the man from the machinery but his injuries were too severe and he was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said in the news release.
Information about how the man got caught in the machine or what type of machinery was involved was not immediately available.
PolyExcel is a U.S. manufacturer of premium quality baler twine, according to the company’s official website.
The Clearfield Police Department is working with the Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration to investigate the incident.
“The initial investigation suggests no suspicious circumstances and that the incident was an accident,” the news release said.
Police have not yet released the man’s name, pending family notification.
