SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City police shot a person while executing a search warrant early Friday.

Police spokesman Glen Mills says investigators obtained a search warrant for an apartment near 49 S. 800 East. Because the search was deemed to be "high risk," a SWAT team was used to serve it.

About 12:15 a.m., during the execution of the warrant, an officer fired at least one shot at a person, Mills said. No officers were injured. Police have not said if the person shot was a man or a woman. Officers gave medical care to the victim, who was then taken to a local hospital. Mills says the person is expected to survive.

According to Mills, the person had an "extensive" criminal history that includes "aggravated assault, aggravated assault with bodily injury, reckless endangerment, failure to stop at the command of law enforcement and contributing to the delinquency of a minor."

The Unified Police Department is handling the police shooting investigation.
