RIVERTON — A truck carrying a load of drywall rolled onto its side, crushed a nearby vehicle and critically injured the vehicle's driver at the intersection of Bangerter and 12600 South Tuesday afternoon.

The truck was traveling south on Bangerter when the driver tried to turn onto 12600 South, causing the load of drywall to shift and topple the truck, according to Unified police detective Ken Hansen. The truck rolled onto a small, white car, crushing it.

The driver of the white car was transported to the hospital in critical condition, Hansen said. The man told police he saw the truck coming toward him and was able to move his car forward a few feet prior to impact — an action officers believe may have saved his life.

The truck also hit another car and a pickup truck. The occupants of the other two vehicles were unharmed and were able to leave the scene, Hansen said.

The driver of the drywall truck was taken to the hospital in fair condition.

There were two passengers in the drywall truck, but it is unknown whether they were transported to the hospital or left against medical advice.

12600 South was closed for several hours while crews righted the drywall truck and cleared the accident scene.
