MILLCREEK — Crews had to use snowmobiles to access a fire that heavily damaged a cabin in Millcreek Canyon Sunday night.
A neighbor snowmobiled down the canyon to get cellphone service and report the fire near 6670 E. Millcreek Road on Porter Fork Road around 9:45 p.m., according to Unified Fire's Taylor Sandstrom.
Firefighters arrived and found the cabin was about a mile off the main road and fully engulfed in flames. They shuttled to the fire on snowmobiles because the road was snowpacked and unmaintained.
The homeowner was notified and is cooperating with fire investigators, Sandstrom said. The cabin, with an estimated value of $175,000, is a total loss, he added.
Investigators were still looking for the cause of the fire.
No injuries were reported.
