SALT LAKE CITY — A grieving Utah County family received an unexpected gift Friday evening, just days before Christmas.
The Wasatch Tundras and Tacomas group came together to make a special delivery to the family of Nickolas Thayne, one of their own. The 23-year-old died last week when the vehicle he was in slid off the road in American Fork Canyon and fell into the river below.
On Friday, the group led a convoy from Draper to Pleasant Grove to deliver the presents to the grieving family. They visited with Thayne’s wife and 2-year-old daughter, and left them with a sincere message.
“Our group motto is ‘we never turn our back on family,’ and since Nick is family, we just wanted to let them know they’re not alone and they’re part of the family too,” said Jimmy Prior, a friend of Thayne’s.
Thayne is remembered as a loving, creative and passionate man. His friends told KSL if the roles were reversed, Thayne would likely be the person organizing a similar effort to help a family in need.
