HEBER — Each fall, when the leaves change color and the morning air turns crisp, thousands of visitors trek to Heber for one of the nation’s largest cowboy poetry gatherings. Started by a group of local friends in 1994, the Heber Valley Western Music and Cowboy Poetry Gathering has grown into a renowned celebration of western music, poetry and art.

This year’s event opened with a "wild" dinner party on Wednesday, Oct. 25 and concluded with a “Cowboy Church” event on Sunday. Along the way, there were multiple performances from fan favorites like Waddie Mitchell, Andy Nelson, Riders In The Sky, Bar J Wranglers, Sons of the San Joaquin and Utah’s own Brenn Hill.

In addition to the poetry and music, the Heber Valley Western Music and Cowboy Poetry Gathering also featured artwork, crafts, clothing and other creations from artisans nationwide. There were even cowboy mounted shooting competitions, where visitors could join in the action by shooting black powder rifles at balloon targets.

Check out the photo gallery to see performances from some of the event’s biggest acts.
