Funeral services announced for Elder Robert D. Hales

SALT LAKE CITY — A funeral for Elder Robert D. Hales of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will be held Friday morning, according to officials from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The service, which is open to those aged 8 and older, will be held at the Tabernacle on Temple Square at 11 a.m. Doors to the building will open at 9:30 a.m. Those wishing to attend are asked to be in their seats by 10:30 a.m., Church officials said.

Overflow seating will be available at Assembly Hall, also on Temple Square.

There will be no public viewing for Elder Hales.

A private burial service will be held afterward at Bountiful Memorial Cemetery.

Elder Hales, who served as a member of the LDS Church’s Quorum of the Twelve Apostles since 1994, died Sunday surrounded by family and loved ones. A few days earlier, he had been admitted to a hospital for treatment of pulmonary and other conditions.

Those interested in giving can, in lieu of flowers, donate to the Humanitarian Aid Fund or the church’s General Missionary Fund.
