(KSL News) The Utah Department of Health is trying to cut the number of deaths due to unintentional overdoses of prescription pain medication by 15 percent next year.
Such overdoses claimed the lives of 317 Utahns last year. That's more than the number of Utahns killed in car accidents.
The health department says painkiller overdoses are almost always preventable. Because of that, the department is promoting Prescription Safety Week in Utah.
State Epidemiologist Robert Rolfs and Prescription Pain Medication program manager Erin Johnson joined us to discuss the issue in tonight's Talking Point.
