AMERICAN FORK — Police have arrested a man in connection with an assault that led to the death of 47-year-old Brandon Bourgeois in August.
Jace Zeeman, 27, was arrested Thursday and booked into the Utah County Jail, American Fork Police said in a Thursday press release. Zeeman has been charged with manslaughter, a second-degree felony.
Zeeman is Bourgeois stepson, according to American Fork police Sgt. Josh Christensen.
Zeeman allegedly assaulted Bourgeois on Aug. 27. Police arrived on that day at a residence to find Bourgeois unconscious and not breathing. Alcohol was a factor in the confrontation, Christensen said.
Bourgeois was later transported to a hospital, and he died Sept. 1 when family members decided to take him off of life support.
An “extensive” investigation concluded that Zeeman had assaulted Bourgeois, police said. No other people have been arrested in the case, Christensen said.
“This was a very tragic event for this family and the community that surrounded them,” the press release stated. “Our hearts go out to all those involved and all those who knew Brandon.”
