WEST VALLEY CITY — One person is dead after an early-morning crash near the intersection of 2100 South and Bangerter Highway.

The crash took place just before 2 a.m., according to West Valley City Police Lt. Jeff Conger. A Hyundai Veloster was traveling northbound at a high speed on Bangerter Highway and rear-ended a semitruck, Conger said.

The driver of the Hyundai, a man in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the driver was not released.

The semitruck driver was not injured.

Conger said it did not appear that the semitruck driver had done anything wrong, and it looked like just a bad accident. Police also were investigating to determine if alcohol was a factor in the crash, he said.
