SALT LAKE CITY — Utah is lucky enough to be home to hundreds of farmers throughout the state, and each year, farmers and members of the community are able to share their talents with others at annual farmers markets.
Although Utah is geographically the 13th largest state in the U.S., 80 percent of the population lives in metropolitan areas surrounding the Salt Lake City area, according to World Population Review.
Farmers markets often give the opportunity for many city dwellers who can't garden to get a taste of what life is like in the country and bring it closer to home.
Here are some of the farmers markets taking place throughout Utah this summer and fall:
Northern Utah =============
Food vendors, farmers' produce and crafts will be available at the farmers market at 400 N. 200 West in Bountiful. The market is open on Thursdays from 3-8 p.m. from now to Oct. 13.
Arts, crafts, pastries, juices and produce from locals will be sold from now until Oct. 17 at 199 N. Main St. in Logan. Hours are 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturdays.
The Ogden Farmers Market is open Saturdays from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Ogden’s Historic 25th Street. It will be open from now until Sept. 16. Some days will have live entertainment and community activities.
Takes place every Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to dusk and is open from now to September at 2450 N. Hwy 158 in Eden. A concert featuring a different artist will take place each week. Vendors include produce, food, homemade jewelry, arts and crafts, kids activities and more.
Open Saturdays from now through Sept. 30 at 563 S. State St. The market is open from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and will feature meats, fruits, vegetables, seeds, plants, crafts, prepared food and more.
This farmers market is held each week on Wednesdays from 4-9 p.m. until Sept. 27. Vendors include produce, flowers, eggs, prepared food, fruits, vegetables and more. It is located at 1200 W. Antelope Dr.
Local produce, gourmet food, art, entertainment and children's activities will be available Thursdays from 5-8 p.m. The market is open now to Sept. 21 and is located at 875 S. 50 West in Kaysville.
Eastern Utah ============
This one is held in downtown Vernal at 225 E. Main St. each Saturday at 9 a.m.-1 p.m. The market is open now through Sept. 30 and will feature all kinds of fresh produce.
Located at the Main Street Park, 250 S. Main, this market is open Thursdays from 4-9 p.m. The market is running now to Aug. 31 and features local crafts, flowers, food, produce, honey and more.
This market features over 150 booths and over 100 different performers each Sunday at 10 a.m.-5 p.m. The event runs from now to Sept. 17 and is held on Main Street in Park City.
This seasonal market is open at Park City Resort Canyons, off Highway 224, from 12-6 p.m. each Wednesday from now to Oct. 25. It offers locally grown and organic products from Utah farmers.
Salt Lake Area ==============
The Historic Benson Grist Mill Harvest Days
This farmers market has a different theme each week. The dates and times vary starting from July 15-Oct. 28. The mill is located at 325 State Road 138 in Stansbury Park.
The Gardner Village farmers market features local, seasonal produce each Saturday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. The market is open now to Oct. 28 and is located at 1100 W. 7800 South in West Jordan. Parking is free.
Open Wednesday evenings from 4-8 p.m. at Wilmington Plaza, 1500 E. 2100 South. This market features live music and will sell local food, crafts and produce.
Downtown Salt Lake Farmers Market
This large farmers market features vegetables, meats, eggs, dairy, honey, fruits, baked goods, sauces, spreads and flora from local farmers. Arts and crafts are also available for purchase. It is open each Saturday from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. from now until October at Pioneer Park, 350 S. 300 West.
The South Jordan farmers market is held each Saturday from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. starting Aug. 5-Oct. 28. It is held at 10695 S. Redwood Road and will only feature crops and growers.
Starting July 28 - Oct. 28, this market will be open each Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. located at 295 E. Murray Park Way. Produce from local growers will be featured.
University of Utah Farmers Market
The University of Utah’s Farmers Market is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. It takes place west of the Union building every Thursday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The market is open Aug. 24-Oct. 5. Some items can be purchased with food stamps.
This Sunday morning marketplace opens from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. and takes place at Wheeler Farm, 6351 S. 900 East in Murray. Over 90 vendors will be featured, along with farm animals for show.
Honey, food, entertainment, arts and crafts will be available at the 9th West Farmers Market, located at the International Peace Gardens and Jordan Park, 1000 S. 900 West in Salt Lake City. This market is open now to Oct. 9 every Sunday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Central Utah ============
Springville Happy Valley Farmers Market
Takes place every Monday from 5-9 p.m. at the Springville Museum of Art, 126 E. 400 South. The market is open July 31-Oct. 23.
University Mall Happy Valley Farmers Market
Open every Friday at 5-9 p.m. starting Aug. 4-Oct. 27. Takes place at The Orchard at University Mall, 575 E. University Pkwy.
LaVell Edwards Stadium Farmers Market
This market is open every Thursday from 3-7 p.m. at the south stadium parking lot of Provo’s LaVell Edwards Stadium, 1700 N. Canyon Road. Baked goods and arts and crafts will be featured from Aug. 3-Oct. 26.
The market features food trucks, art and produce from now through October at Pioneer Park, 500 W. Center St. The market is open 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Opening times change after Labor Day to 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
The annual market is open every Saturday starting July 29-Oct. 28 from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. The market will be held at 40 S. Main St.
Southern Utah =============
Cedar City year-round farmers market
Held every Saturday from 9 a.m.-noon, this year-round market has local vendors and features locally produced products such as fruit, vegetables, cheese, jam, honey and more. It is located at 50 W. University Blvd. and admission is free.
This farmers market is open 9 a.m. to noon each Saturday at 1212 Zion Park Blvd. in Springdale. Market season is now until Oct. 14. Vendors include arts and crafts, farm and ranch products, prepared food and agricultural crafts.
This farmers market is open every Friday from 4-7 p.m. until Oct. 27 and is located at Swanny City Park, 100 West and Park Drive. Features music, fresh produce and family activities each week.
Downtown St. George Farmers Market
Held on Ancestor Square off of St. George Boulevard every Saturday from 8 a.m.-noon, this market features live music, locally grown produce, arts and crafts. This market closes the end of October.
