FARMINGTON — Rescue crews were searching for a man who went underwater and did not resurface, officials confirmed late Tuesday night.

Davis County Sheriff Todd Richardson said a man in his 20s was rope swinging on Farmington Pond, 750 N. 75 West. When he hit the water he “immediately started having some issues with staying afloat," the sheriff said.

Richardson said friends saw the man briefly before he went underwater and did not resurface. The man was not wearing a life preserver and he was far enough out that none of his friends was able to get to him.

“As it stands right now, we’re still in that rescue mode,” Richardson said.

The Davis County Search and Rescue team was dispatched along with a dive team. The Salt Lake City Fire Department’s dive team also arrived to assist, Richardson said.

The Weber County Sheriff’s dive team will likely be requested to help in the search, as well, Richardson said.

More information will be posted as soon as it becomes available.
