PROVO, Utah (AP) -- The Utah County Sheriff's Department will use a federal grant to help prosecute child sex offenders and enforce sex offender registration laws.
The department will receive a U.S. Department of Justice grant worth about $316,000 over two years.
The Utah County Sex Crimes Task Force will use the money for personnel, training, surveillance and equipment costs.
Sheriff James Tracy says Utah County is a target-rich environment for sexual predators because there are so many children living there.
He says the grant will be a big boost for a department that was in need of it.
