SPRINGVILLE — Firefighters responded Wednesday to a planned agricultural burn that briefly escaped its bounds.
Utah County Fire Department Capt. Andy Watson estimated the fire, located near Utah Lake west of Springville, reached about 140-160 acres overall at one point Wednesday evening.
The fire got out of control due to high winds and warm temperatures, but conditions calmed down somewhat by Wednesday night and it was contained, Watson said.
He said flames and smoke would be visible to some Utah County residents overnight, during which time crews planned to monitor the fire.
Officials said the response to the fire was complicated by difficult access tin the marshy terrain.
No buildings were threatened by the fire and it didn't expand beyond the original property where it started, Watson said.
