Police in Roy are wrapping things up at a standoff that ended peacefully this afternoon. This isn't the first time officers have been in this neighborhood and to this particular home.
It started as a domestic dispute around 12:30 p.m. By the time Roy police arrived, the armed man barricaded himself inside a home at 5902 S. 2775 West and threatened to hurt himself.
Roy Police Chief Greg Whinham said, "From early on, he was willing to talk with negotiators, that's a very positive sign for us."
While negotiators talked to the man, schools were put on alert, several bus routes were altered and a handful of elementary school children who usually walk through the area had to be picked up by parents.
The man eventually surrendered around 2 p.m. No shots were fired. Investigators say they are familiar with this man. They were called out to almost this exact situation in August 2007.
Whinham said, "When you repeat something like this, it becomes far more alarming and concerning because, apparently, there was something we didn't do well to help intervene in his problem solving a year ago."
