BLACKFOOT, Idaho — A Blackfoot toddler died after being trapped in a fully submerged SUV that crashed into a pond Monday evening.
Two-year-old Brynlie Carver was rushed to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center after being pulled from the vehicle but she later died, according to Bingham County Sheriff Craig Rowland.
Deputies received a call around 6 p.m. that a vehicle was in the water at Rose Ponds in Bingham County, according to EastIdahoNews.com.
When investigators arrived, the driver of the SUV, 21-year-old Cheyenne Rane, and two passengers, 24-year-old Blake Carver and 3-year-old Paitynn Carver, were safe.
“The driver told deputies that there was another child in the vehicle,” Rowland says. “An alert then went out for all search and rescue divers.”
The vehicle was fully submerged by the time the first diver arrived at the pond within 22 minutes, according to Rowland. A short time later, Brynlie was pulled out of the SUV and handed to EMT’s. She was airlifted to EIRMC in critical condition. Family members tell EastIdahoNews.com she died shortly after midnight.
Rowland says Rane was driving on a gravel bar covered in water and slipped off the bar into the pond. At this point, he doesn’t expect criminal charges will be filed.
Condolences for the family are being posted on social media.
“Everyone hug your kids a little tighter and a little more today. You never know what could happen,” Brynlie’s aunt, Stephanie Baer, wrote on Facebook. “Brynlie, we love you so very much and you will always be in our hearts. Till we meet again baby girl.”
