GRANTSVILLE, Tooele County — Police are investigating a death in an apartment fire Saturday night.

Firefighters responded to the blaze in an apartment unit at 225 Apple St. about 10 p.m. Saturday, finding the unit fully engulfed in flames, Grantsville police spokeswoman Alison Peterson said.

As they responded, firefighters discovered one person dead in the apartment. No additional information was released.

It is unknown how the fire started, Peterson said. Grantsville police and fire officials are investigating the blaze.

Residents of the adjoining apartments had safely evacuated before fire crews arrived, Peterson said. It is unknown exactly how many people have been displaced.

Friends and family of those affected by the fire were on scene offering to help Saturday night.

"Everybody is close knit, so it can be very difficult on those people involved," Peterson said.

Firefighters from Tooele County crews helped douse the flames, Peterson said.

Citing the ongoing investigation, police Sunday would not release details about where and how the victim was located; the name, age or gender of the victim; or whether the fire is believed to be suspicious.
