(KSL News) -- A fire pit left unattended led to nearly $500,000 of damage to structures in Providence.
The adult son of the property owner says he thought he extinguished the fire in the pit before he went to bed last night, but the smell of smoke woke him up.
The fire spread from the pit onto a pile of wood, and then onto the garage and house.
All the people in the home were able to evacuate, and one person was treated for smoke inhalation. Two of the family's dogs did not survive.
