LOS ANGELES — Though sketch comedy group “Studio C” hails from humble beginnings, the troupe’s iconic family-friendly comedy is spreading beyond Happy Valley.
“Studio C” members Matt Meese and Stacey Harkey traveled to California Tuesday and appeared on comedian Conan O’Brien’s show “Conan” while their fellow cast members joined them as part of the show’s audience.
The group first met the talk show host after O’Brien’s children spotted the group at a restaurant in Los Angeles.

“When my kids saw you, I didn’t know what had happened, I literally thought there was a rat in the restaurant,” [O’Brien told Meese and Harkey during the show](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2N2K2hreHeQ). “They jumped up, and they don’t react like this to anyone, and they started screaming ‘Studio C! Studio C!’”
According to O’Brien, the comedian’s children have shown him the group’s most well-known sketch, starring Meese as soccer player Scott Sterling, at least 500 times. And though he’s seen it so many times, O’Brien claims it never stops being funny.
O’Brien also praised the group for well-constructed and funny sketches and appreciated the group’s clean comedy that even children could enjoy.
“It’s clean comedy... even in an era when that might not be so popular,” O’Brien said. “How do you guys do it?”
According to Meese, the group simply wanted to fill a niche that wasn’t being occupied as much anymore with family-friendly sketch comedy.
“We (also) have a staunch Irish Catholic grandmother in the writers' room at all times,” Meese joked.

Though O’Brien pointed out that a lot of Studio C fans are children, Meese and Harkey said their viewer demographic definitely extends beyond as well.
“Our goal wasn’t to make children’s programming,” Harkey said. “We just wanted to make funny content that everyone could watch so you don’t have to worry about watching with your kids or your staunch Catholic grandmother.”
