ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) — Jurors heard few arguments during the murder trial of a southern Utah man accused of killing two women as attorneys argued over whether some defense evidence should be allowed.
The Spectrum reports that on Tuesday jurors heard only 30 minutes of testimony in the trial of Brandon Perry Smith. He was charged with aggravated murder after Jerrica Christensen died in a December 2010 altercation at a St. George townhome that also left another woman dead.
Smith's attorney argued that he should be allowed to present evidence suggesting that Smith's convicted co-defendant Paul Clifford Ashton caused Smith to killed Christensen. Prosecutors argued Ashton's behavior isn't relevant to the case.
